Payment Safety
Patrons App makes paying somebody nearby quicker. It cannot make it safer than the check you do yourself, so here is that check.
The one thing that matters
Before you confirm any payment, read the account holder name your UPI app shows you. That name comes from the banking system. The recipient’s bank supplied it, not us and not them. If it does not look like the person standing in front of you, stop.
Why this matters
The name you see on the radar is chosen freely by whoever is using that phone. There is no verification step, and there cannot be one. Patrons App has no accounts, no servers and no way to confirm that a display name belongs to the owner of a UPI ID. Somebody could deliberately use a name that is not theirs.
Your UPI app closes that gap for you at no cost, on every payment, for free. Use it.
Practical habits
- Confirm out loud. Before paying, say the name you see and check it is them. Most impersonation falls apart at this step.
- Check the bank name on the confirmation screen, not the name in Patrons App.
- Look at the amount twice. You type it yourself in your UPI app; we never fill in an amount, or anything else.
- Be sceptical in crowds. The more people on the radar, the more careful you should be about which one you tapped.
- Never share your UPI PIN. No payment you receive ever requires you to enter a PIN. Anybody asking you to enter a PIN “to receive money” is attempting fraud.
Who carries the risk
You do. Patrons App is a convenience utility that points you at your own payment app, and PPLST Tech Private Limited accepts no liability for any payment you make or any loss that follows from it. Checking the payee before you confirm is your responsibility, and it is the only check that reliably works.
What we cannot do
We want to be honest about our limits. We cannot reverse a payment, trace one, identify who received one, freeze anything, or tell you whether a transaction happened. We hold no record of any payment because none passes through us.
If something goes wrong
- Contact the UPI app you paid with. They can raise a dispute.
- Contact your bank.
- For fraud in India, report at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930.
- Tell us at admin@pplsttech.com if somebody misused the app, so we can consider changes that make it harder. Please do steps 1 to 3 first though, as those are the ones that can actually recover money.
